Spot Billed Duck

This is a picture I took on our way to Banni Grasslands Reserve from Moti Virani, Kutch near a water body enroute. The couple in this picture is a male and female Spot Billed Duck. They are quite commonly spotted breeding in India, however, did you know one amazing fact about them????

They suffer a postnuptial moult, meaning, they shed all their feathers post nupital!!!!!!

Now if my friend Vimal had known about this before hand, he could have saved his life you know! 😀 😀 😀 Beware of the knot I tell you!!
