V for Viper

A Viper made an appearance at Nigam’s door step, perhaps it didn’t want to miss out on the A 2 Z Challenge 😀

In Indian languages it is referred to commonly as ‘Daboia.’ It is also known as Russell’s Viper, This is what Wiki has to say about it :

The species was named in honor of Patrick Russell (1726–1805), a Scottish herpetologist who first described many of India’s snakes; and the name of the genus is from the Hindi word meaning “that lies hid”, or “the lurker.”[3] Apart from being a member of the big four snakes in India, Daboia is also one of the species responsible for causing the most snakebite incidents and deaths among all venomous snakes on account of many factors, such as their wide distribution and frequent occurrence in highly-populated areas.

It was caught by a snake lover and released in the bushes outside the town but not before we took a couple of pictures of it. 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
