N for Narkanda

IMG_3917

This picture was taken during the MTB Himachal 2011 Edition 7th. We reached Narkanda the previous night in the dark in really terrible weather, it was freezing cold and it was raining. Temperatures were sub zero we all assumed. We all had our dinners in our tents… luckily the rains remained kind of light and did not decide to flush everything away. These are famous skiing slopes in Narkanda where they conduct their skiing courses but when the snow melts its a wonderful pasture land.

Have you ever experienced the fun of camping outdoors and sleeping in sleeping bags ??? Trust me its one experience that will teach you so many new things about yourself. If you have never camped, never built a camp fire, never slept in sleeping bags, never trekked than perhaps you need to put that in your bucket list asap. Β πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Narkanda is a wonderful small town near Shimla, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Shimla it gives you breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar Range. It is at a height of 2708 meters. We were surrounded by a pine forest that was lush and pristine.

This image of Google maps will probably give you an idea of where we camped :

  1. What a fabulous place! Was not aware of this place considering we go to Shimla every 45 days or so. Will definitely check it out next time! Yes, have stayed in tents at Rishikesh on the banks of river Ganga! It was back to basics kind of living! πŸ™‚

    • It is no fun ? I have to disagree… I do believe camping is fun… I have always loved curling up in a sleeping bag.. sometimes reading on grass banks with the view of the mountains… it is fun !!

  2. We are avid campers – but the camp sites here are very well equipped – so it is a pseudo camping experience, but yes, we do pitch tents, put on camp fires and eat food cooked on fire πŸ™‚ This one looks like the ‘premium’ camping experience. I tell you, I envy you, not just for the expanse you seem to have traveled, the experiences you have gathered but also for your clicking skills. If I were anywhere nearby, I’d have shot a bollywood song in all it’s glory around those very specks of color.

  3. What a pretty campsite! Of course, we camp a lot here in California! It’s one of the benefits of being in such a green, moderate weather state!

  4. Wonderful
I heard the same about solang valley near Manali
It was all green when we went . Paragliding is famous there and skiing during snow time πŸ™‚
    Camp idea Is wonderful
    Never done that

  5. Thinking a beginners-moderate trek with a coupla gal pals in end June sometime. Maybe we should try this. I have slept in a tent, but that was during a scouts & guides rally. Not the camping variety.
