This is the first time I spotted a tiger err… tigress in the wild, and it was no common tigress. Machhli is the name she has been given thanks to the dark fish like pattern on her face by the stripes. She is also known as T-16 or Lady of the Lakes or Park Ki Naani
You can read more about my encounter with her HERE.
I will leave you with one fact about the contribution this tigress has made to Indian Tourism, apart from being the most filmed and documented tigress,
The popular tigeress was given a ‘lifetime achievement award’ last year by pressure group Travel Operators for Tigers after it was estimated she had earned $10 million a year for the last ten years by attracting tourists to India.
BTW Pic was taken by ME ! π π π π π π
LET THE COMPLIMENTS POUR ! π
Folks if you love tigers tune into Animal Planet at 9 this whole month of April they are showing episodes on Tigers. Would you also believe that in the first 12 days of April they showed 6 episodes shot in Ranthambore and every episode did feature either Machhli or one of her offspring π π π π π
Pour no 1 I guess π The name is very intriguing π You are very blessed to see something so magnificent in person, and clicking it is another blessing altogether….Reminds me of William Blake
“TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry? ”
Thanks for the chills and the memories π
I have always loved that poem by Willian Blake ! π

“m-for-machhli” – I was hinkin git will be a post on fish π
Your pictures are so beautiful. and that was certainly a googly from you, just when most of us expected fish pictures. BTW, did Machhli collect the lifetime achievement award? I am guessing yes. Maybe that is why the givers of the award, Travel Operators, are feeling pressured.
What a Majestic look! Simply a beautiful click!
Oh I am so jealous of you right now! Gotta do that myself, I generally find myself tattling around with a 50mm f1.8, need to get a 600mm (or something higher!) and march into the jungle π
Akhil.
